The British University in Egypt
02-Aug-07
Another year is about to start on the campus of the British University in Egypt (BUE) and Flying Colours was
there to bring you all the news of its annual open day on 16 June.
The BUE first opened its doors at its vast location in Sherouk City in 2005. From day one, it proved its unique standing and worthiness and is now considered a very valuable addition to the education system in Egypt and the Middle East. The big inauguration on 22 March 2006 hosted the elite of both British and Egyptian society - First Lady Suzanne Mubarak and His Royal Highness Prince Charles and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, honoured us with their presence. The ceremony was formal but really welcoming.
The Board of Trustees is well aware of our role in the IGCSE community and we were happy to receive our invitation to the open day. We were welcomed by Dr.Moustafa Gouda, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, in a very generous manner, and he chatted with us for a while. During our chat he said “IGCSE students are smart, intelligent and posses the ability to adapt to our system faster. They are all amazing academically
and happen to be of the best in the University”. We were then given a comprehensive guided tour around the campus by Dr. Moustafa El Ashry, Engineering Department.
The biggest question that goes through any university applicant’s head whether the campus is well equipped or not? Well, we have an answer to that. All labs on the BUE campus were filled with the latest technology and equipment. We were also given a glimpse of some of the freshmen’s projects in the Engineering Faculty. We were completely awestruck by the amount of creativity shown in the room, and they all agreed that this creativity was a direct result of teamwork, which made nothing impossible. So look out Egypt - some fine engineers are coming your way soon!!!
What makes studying at BUE so easy is the fact that the majority of the
staff are British and all are highly qualified for their posts. In addition to this, the BUE was formed in partnership with the prestigious Loughborough University in England, which is ranked top university for teaching quality along with Cambridge and the 6th overall.
As if all that wasn't enough to convince us, we then attended a lecture by the President of the University, Dr. Mostafa El Feki, and a second presentation by Nick McHard, Registrar & Director of Corporate Services, highlighted the further benefits to be gained by all students applying to BUE.
In conclusion, our team really believes that the BUE is really an outstanding University for anyone striving for success and recognition in life. And the idea of getting to explore the huge campus, with its eight buildings, many sports fields and dormitories, seems almost enough to send us all there for our college experience.
